Tatiana Pieloni Appointed Co-Chair of the EIC Accelerator Collaboration

Dr. Tatiana Pieloni, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), has taken on the role of international co-chair of the EIC Accelerator Collaboration. Pieloni assumes the responsibilities of this role previously held by Carsten Welsch of the University of Liverpool. This prestigious appointment recognizes Pieloni’s outstanding contributions to accelerator physics and extensive experience in international scientific collaboration. “It is an honor to join the EIC project at such a pivotal moment,” said Pieloni. “I look forward to collaborating with colleagues worldwide to push the boundaries of physics and contribute to the success of this innovative project, which will certainly pave the way for even more ambitious research and the development of future accelerators.” ...

APS DPB Newsletter article - Kicking off the EIC Accelerator Collaboration

The momentum for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), the world’s first fully polarized electron-ion collider, is building as experts from around the globe gather to push the boundaries of nuclear physics. On May 21, during the 15th International Particle Accelerator Conference (IPAC’24) in Nashville, Tennessee, the new EIC Accelerator Collaboration was formally launched through a kick-off event, opened by Joanne Hewett, director of Brookhaven National Lab. Nearly 200 accelerator experts convened to learn about the unique challenges and exciting opportunities that the EIC presents. The accelerator collaboration is essential for the design and construction of a collider that meets and possibly even exceeds the recommendations of the U.S. National Science Advisory Committee Long Range Plan and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences’ requirements. Jim Yeck, EIC project director from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory, emphasized the importance of this gathering. ...

Accelerator Collaboration will play a key role in shaping the EIC

The role of the EIC Accelerator Collaboration in shaping the Electron-Ion Collider was discussed in the leading Accelerator News website. Particle accelerators like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN have previously revolutionised our understanding of physics, leading to breakthrough discoveries such as the Higgs boson, a vital building block of our universe. But little is known about how quarks and gluons form the core of nearly all visible matter. ...

All Eyes on EIC at IPAC'24 and in Rome as World Partners Gather

Making the world’s first polarized Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) a reality is a massive and complex project that requires intense collaboration and partnership with experts across the U.S. and around the world. From building the accelerator and the detector to planning infrastructure and managing the project itself, the EIC relies on a vast array of skills and specialists. In just the past few months, members of the global scientific community and close supporters of the EIC have come together at two major meetings to plan the next steps to make the EIC — a groundbreaking project first conceived 22 years ago — a reality. ...
